This activity that we did with Mike Etnier was pretty fun. We had the experience to become and do what archaeologists do. We learned how to dig on sites. Learned what kind of stuff to use. Another thing was how to use it and what names they had. Like a trowel, didn't know what that was until the activity.
The first thing we had to do for this activity was talk about what we can and can't do. Like, we had to horizontally take the sand layers off. We had to take the pallets off too. Another thing was we had to keep a sand pile for the next time. Then we had to use a cleaning brush to clean by the bone when we hit one.
It was very hard being patient. Especially, horizontally taking the sand off. Another thing was when we saw a bone we had to use different tools like a trowel and the a little chopstick to take the sand off from small spaces on the bone. We had little tiny maggots in our tote. The tote we had were excavation boxes that we got from Trident. We had the vertebrae and the hooves in our tote.
But we only got to dig up quarter of our stuff because it got vandalized the next day. It was really sad because i really wanted to experience what mike has experienced many of times. How it got vandalized were by animals and children. It was very up- setting at first, but got sad at the end. But we still had a great experience.
He also showed us the differences in the bones of animals like a reindeer. Showed us the curves and stuff on the hooves which were cool! Showing us how they split apart at the bottom of your foot to keep them balanced, like all the way equally distributed. In the end we all still had a great time.
